Ba Danh Pagoda is located in Danh Xa village, Ngoc Son ward, Kim Bang town, on the left bank of the Day River, near Ngoc mountain - a mountain with green trees all year round. On the opposite bank to the East is the Truc Temple - Ngu Dong Son relic complex.

Ba Danh Pagoda, like many other pagodas in Northern Vietnam, has a shrine with many Buddha and Bodhisattva statues like pagodas worshiping Buddha according to the Mahayana sect, and also has statues of Tam Phu and Tu Phu of folk beliefs.

Ba Danh Pagoda worships Phap Phong, a completely indigenous belief. Legend has it that: In the past, this area always encountered heavy rain and strong winds, so production was very difficult. One day, the whole village was excited about the story of a saint appearing in a dream to an old man in the village. There was a young, beautiful, dignified girl with a kind face and intelligent forehead and eyes who said: I was sent here by the gods to take care of and instruct the villagers in farming. The villagers then built a pagoda to worship her. The elders chose the forest at the beginning of the village as the place to build the pagoda. At that time, it was a dense forest with many ancient trees, and a small mountain jutting out of the water near the river bank.

The pagoda was originally built simply with bamboo and thatch. In the Vinh Tri year of Le Hy Tong (1676 - 1680), the forest was cleared to build a spacious pagoda. That place was an area where villagers prohibited people from building houses, so the pagoda became even more solemn and deserted. Not long after the pagoda was built, an ancient jackfruit tree next to the pagoda was suddenly blown down by a strong wind. The villagers took the wood to carve a statue to worship in the pagoda. One day, a visitor came to the pagoda and said he was a statue carver and had been told in a dream to come here. The visitor described the appearance and face of the girl who had told him in his dream as very similar to the saint who had told the old man in the village.

That year, it was the rainy season, the river water rose high, the statue was almost finished when, under the riverbank in front of the pagoda, there was a strange object, half floating, half sinking, hovering but not drifting with the water. The villagers picked it up and saw that it was made of precious wood like a throne, so they immediately brought it to the pagoda.

The statue was carved to look exactly like the girl in their dreams and when they tried it on the throne, it fit perfectly. Since then, the area has had favorable weather and abundant crops. The rumor that the Holy Lady of Bao Son Pagoda is sacred and mysterious attracts many visitors from all over the country to worship. People who work on the river during the rainy season, when boats go back and forth here, all come to the pagoda to burn incense and pray for peace. The locals call this pagoda Duc Ba Lang Danh Pagoda (Danh is the Vietnamese name of Dinh Xa village, where the pagoda is located) and call it Ba Danh Pagoda for short.

Ba Danh Pagoda faces South, overlooking the Day River. This is a comprehensive system including many structures such as: Tam Quan, Dai Vu, worshiping place and guest house, monk house with nearly 40 rooms (not including the toilet system) interwoven to support each other. In addition, there is a Mother Goddess worshiping shrine on the East side of the pagoda area. According to local people, the pagoda was built a long time ago but has been renovated many times. The remaining structures were built from the 19th century onwards.

About 100m west of Ba Danh Pagoda is Ngoc Mountain. This mountain is part of a limestone mountain system stretching from Hoa Binh down but is separated from the limestone mountain range by the Day River.

Local people have not cut down trees for a long time, so the vegetation here is very rich, including an ancient banyan tree. According to local people, this banyan tree is thousands of years old.

Right at the foot of the mountain is an ancient temple worshiping the Mountain God. Around the temple are many trees creating a cool green space.

Ba Danh Pagoda - Ngoc Mountain is truly worthy of being a famous ancient site. Here, for generations, mountains and rivers have merged together, the natural landscape and man-made structures have complemented each other, contributing to enhancing the value of the entire relic site.
