On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Chau communal house and pagoda complex (Chau Giang sub-area, Kien Khe town, Thanh Liem district) being recognized as a national historical and cultural relic, on the morning of April 22 (March 14). Year of the Dragon), the Management Board of Chau communal house and pagoda relics and the people of Chau Giang sub-region solemnly organized the traditional festival in 2024.
Communal house and Chau pagoda worship the high-ranking God Cao Son Thuong and General Pham Ngu Lao - a famous general of the Tran Dynasty who had many merits in supporting the king, saving the country and the people. Once on the way to fight Champa, when marching across the Day River, seeing that the Kien Khe area had mountains along the river and high lands interspersed with low valleys, convenient for defense, Pham Ngu Lao to establish a military camp and build a warehouse at the current Dinh Chau site.
Also here, the general married a beautiful and talented Chau village girl, making her the Second Lady. She helped the general a lot in building military camps and achieving many glorious victories.
To remember her gratitude, Chau Giang people built a temple to worship her behind the communal house and honored her as Lady Thuy.
The spinning palanquin creates a vibrant atmosphere for the festival.
In order to continue to preserve, preserve and promote the value of traditional festivals of Chau communal houses and pagodas and meet the religious needs of the people, every year, from the 14th - 15th day of the third lunar month, the people of Chau sub-region Giang organized the festival again, carrying palanquins through temples and hamlets in the sub-area, offering incense, paying homage to the gods, praying for peace and prosperity in the country and people, good weather and good harvests.
At the communal house and Chau pagoda festivals, people still preserve traditional games, such as shrimp whoring nests, cockfighting, tug of war, human chess, boat racing...
